This is one of my favorite shots from a recent trip to San Francisco. We were sharing the path that runs from Fisherman's Wharf over to the Golden Gate with competitors in the Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon. It's a great race with a swim that starts from "The Rock" and basically curves over to the shore. Part of the run course goes up a fairly long steep set of stairs - certainly not for the faint of heart. Some parts of the run trail were a bit narrow to share so we walked on the beach which is where I captured this image. The original color image was very grey which made the decision to convert to B+W fairly easy. Sometimes I'm anticipating a picture and get disappointed that there are clouds, or people, or birds or whatever interfering with the main subject. This disappointment does not deter me from taking the shot though and while I may not be excited about it at the time, the review sessions late a night with some quiet jazz and maybe a shot of bourbon can sometimes reveal some real gems.
